Large Format & Digital Printing FAQ
Large format printing covers anything too big for a standard press — banners, posters, signs, window graphics, vehicle magnets and billboards. Here are answers to the questions we hear most.
What file format should I send?
Print-ready PDF is best, with fonts outlined and images embedded. We also accept AI, EPS, PSD, TIFF and high-resolution JPG. Upload files on our <a href="/upload/">artwork upload page</a>.
What resolution do large format files need?
Because large prints are viewed from a distance, 100–150 dpi at full size is usually enough for banners and posters. Vector artwork scales to any size without losing quality.
Should I add bleed?
Yes — add 0.5" bleed on each side for banners and 0.125" for posters and rigid signs, and keep important text at least 1" from the edge.
What is the difference between 13 oz and 15 oz vinyl?
13 oz scrim vinyl is our standard all-purpose banner material for indoor and outdoor use. Heavier 15–18 oz vinyl is stronger for long-term outdoor display and windy locations. 8 oz mesh lets 37% of air through and is ideal for fences, buildings and stadiums.
Are banners hemmed and grommeted?
Standard banners are double-stitched hemmed on all four sides with brass grommets every 2–2.5 feet. Pole pockets, rope, wind slits and reinforced corners are available on request.
How large can you print?
Banners can be printed up to 16 feet tall in one piece and any length; larger banners are welded seamlessly. Billboards and building wraps are produced in panels.
Will my banner be folded?
Banners larger than 96" on the shortest side are folded for shipping; smaller banners are rolled. Creases relax within a day or two of hanging.
How long will an outdoor banner last?
With UV-cured inks, a vinyl banner typically lasts 2–3 years outdoors, depending on sun and wind exposure. Laminated graphics and rigid signs can last longer.
